Winter Carnival-Cardboard Box Race & Bob's Sports Chalet Demo's - MARCH 2, 2013

A great day of events and activities for the entire family!!  Come enjoy the atmosphere with great food on our outdoor deck and music from our DJ!!!   "Pucky" from CT Whale will stop by from 12:30-2:00pm for a visit, so bring your camera!!  

Bob's Sports Chalet will be back on March 2 with the latest and greatest in ski gear for our Demo Day.

You don't want to miss our famous Cardboard Box Race- make a sled or be a spectator- either way you're sure to have a blast!!  Line up at 3pm to have your vehicle judged by the experts at Alpine Haus in Wethersfield.  The race will begin at 4pm.  Prizes awarded for the Best Construction, Fastest Time, Best Fiasco, and Overall Presentation(Costumes encouraged!).  The Grand Prize Winner will take home $100 Cash & a Trophy!   Prizes and Giveaways provided by Alpine Haus to all Cardboard Box participants. 

Rules for all Cardboard Box Racers:

Cardboard Box Race-All participants must have a valid lift ticket, season pass, or employee pass.       

-You may participate individually or in teams, but the total weight carried in the box cannot exceed 400 lbs or 4 competitors.  Each box is allowed up to 3 race starting assistants.

-Due to the popularity of this event and time constraints, we need to limit the number of boxes registered to 40.  Race Waivers may be filled out the day of the race but early registrations are suggested to ensure your place in the race.

- Signed registrations are being accepted at the Mt Southington Business Office.   Every participant is required to sign a Race Release Waiver.  Those under 18 years of age must have a Parent/Guardian signature on the Registration/Race Waiver

-Final signed registrations must be received by 11am the day of the event.  NO LATE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED!!! 

-Helmets are strongly encouraged.

-All vehicles must be built solely of cardboard, tape, glue, paint, and paper.  No industrial pressed cardboard, plastic, wood, staples, ropes, twine, or wire will be permitted.

-The size of each vehicle is limited too:  7ft long, 5ft wide, & 7ft tall.

-Cardboard vehicles must have a front, rear, and at least 2 sides.

-No waxing the bottom of your cardboard box, however tape is acceptable.

-To qualify for prizes at least one box rider must complete the race course.

-Each team is responsible to clearing & removing their vehicle from the Mt Southington Ski Area.

A Skier AND Snowboarder Event!!!    Registration is from 11-12pm in the Red Barn Cafeteria.  $10 Entry Fee and Waiver must be signed.  Those under 18 years of age must have a Parent/Guardian Signature.  A season pass or valid lift ticket along with a helmet is required.  Competition starts at 12:30pm, at the bottom of Stardust Trail.   Prizes also sponsored by Alpine Haus.

LIVE MUSIC IN OUR ALPINE EATERY

Come and ski with us on Saturday nights and enjoy the live entertainment we have scheduled in our Alpine Eatery from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.   It's a great time to take a break to enjoy some live music, food and drinks!!

Visit from Pucky from CT Whale, Martin Luther King Day, January 21

School's out so come spend the day on the slopes!!   Pucky from the CT Whale will be here to hang out from 11am-2pm. 

For all you adults that like to race, Suburban Sports will be here at 6:30pm with the latest and greatest race equipment to demo for our Adult Race Night.

National Safety Week, January 19-27, 2013

Spend the week skiing and riding with us and learn about safety at our mountain.  Don't forget to stop by the Alpine Eatery on Saturday, January 19th from 11am-1pm to color a National Safety Week Poster showing safety at the mountain!!  Yours could be displayed around our mountain!  All entries receive a complimentary hot cocoa.  There will also be Helmet Decorating available from 11am-1pm in the Alpine Eatery.  We have helmets available for purchase in our Ski Shop, if you don't have your own.  For proper helmet fitting instructions, please visit Lids on Kids.org

The "Know the Code" Contest will be happening during the week nightly from approximately 5:30pm to 6:30pm.  If you "Know the Code" you could win a prize!

Monday and Tuesday Night Adult Race Leagues and Equipment Demo

The Monday night league (CSC) started on January 7, and the Tuesday night league (CISC) starts on January 8, 2013.   Check out our website under the Racing tab for further information.  Monday and Tuesday, January 21 and 22, Suburban Sports will be here to demo the newest gear in race equipment.

Check out the newest styles in Telemark Skiing from Black Diamond equipment.   If you have ever wanted to try a "heal free" experience on skis, the staff from EMS will be here to help from 10am-4pm.   With the purchase of a lift ticket you can take as many runs as you'd like on the Telemark Skis.  Drivers license and credit card may be required for deposit.

SKI SWAP and Sale - 2012

SKI SWAP - 2010This year's Ski Swap and Sale will be held the weekend of October 27th and 28th in the Red Barn Cafe featuring Your equipment as well as Bob's Sports Chalet and Alpine Haus.

Hours are:  Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 11am-3pm.

Items you wish to sell will be checked in on Wednesday, October 24th between Noon and 8pm as well as Thursday, October 25th from 5pm - 8pm. Only new or gently used, current equipment will be accepted.  Sorry - No Used Helmets.

Items that were not sold can be picked up on Thursday, November 1st between Noon and 8pm along with payments for items that were sold.  Proceeds from the sale go directly to the Ski Patrol and Ski School Educational Funds.

Any items not picked up by November 1st will be donated to a charity of our choice.

 

 

Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge, February 17, 2013

The Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge is a free, fun race down our ThunderBolt Trail, open to all ages and abilities.  A valid lift ticket or season pass is required along with a Signed Release/Waiver (those under 18 years of age need a Parent/Guardian signature.  Come out and enjoy free Mountain Dew samples, as well as free samples from other sponsors.  Prizes will be awarded to all competitors.  Purchase your lift pass at the ticket window then head over to the Alpine Eatery for early registration at 8:00am. The first 100 registered racers get a free t-shirt.  Start time for the race is 11am followed by an Awards Ceremony in the Alpine Eatery at approximately 3pm.  With male/female and snowboard/skier categories for many age groups- there are many opportunities to be a top finisher.  This is a family fun day so come out and join us for great food on our outdoor deck!!!
