Children's Lessons and Programs
We start them young at Mount Southington. Our children’s lessons and programs are designed for the young skier or rider, ages 4 to12. The Glacier Learning Area, home of our Penguins, Snow Foxes and Polar Bears located next to the Rental Shop and the Alpine Eatery, is very convenient for moms, pops and kids, and features the Magic Carpet Lift and the Handle Tow.
Our instructors are specially trained to work with young learners. Each lesson centers on exercises and games that teach skills while providing fun for the youngsters. At the end of the lesson, parents are given a Progress Card detailing accomplishments and a program to follow to help their children continue to improve.
Get your kids off the couch and onto the slopes. Get them to Mount Southington for skiing fun out in the winter sun.
The Penguins, Snow Foxes and Polar Bears lessons are available on Weekends and Holiday Periods (see our Rates/Hours tab for holiday period schedule) and we do not take reservations for them. They are first come first served. Please make sure that you arrive here at least one hour before the lesson starts so that you'll have adequate time to buy tickets and fit any rentals needed. These Children's Lessons include a Lift Ticket good until 5 pm.

An introduction to skiing for our youngest guests and runs on weekends and holiday periods only. Each Penguin will be introduced to the equipment and introductory skiing skills. Lessons are from 10am to 11am or from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. |

| Ski Threes is a unique multi-person private lesson for YOU and your three-year-old. Our specially trained instructors will show one or both parents how to introduce their child to skiing with the help of some useful learning tools. We will teach you how to use tip connectors and a harness correctly and have fun while doing it (Tip connectors and a harness will be provided). This one-hour lesson is offered at 12:00 noon on weekends and holiday periods for only $77. A lift ticket for you both is also required as well as equipment if you don't already have your own skis. Wild Things is a multi-week program (4 or 8 weeks) for children ages 6 to 12 who can already move around the mountain. Our emphasis is on having fun while improving each child’s skiing or boarding skills. Wild Things offers your child a chance to ski or board with the same instructor and group for all four or eight sessions, and enables the instructor and child to establish a “skiing/boarding partnership” where the instructor can tailor the weekly lessons to the group’s specific needs. Wild Things is offered from 10am -3pm on consecutive Saturdays or Sundays in January and February. This program includes a one hour supervised box lunch. |

| Looking for a program designed for your 2nd Grader? Introducing the Little Tykes Ski Club meets once a week for 3 weeks on Monday, January 28th, February 4th and 11th, 2013 as well as Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays starting February 20, 2013 from 4:45-7pm. Now offering snowboarding on Wednesdays beginning February 20th for 3 weeks. A certified instructor will work with your child the entire session with class sizes of no more than 5 children.
